Morton County Commission approves abatements, recommends subdivision plat and hears 2025 budgets

At its July 11 meeting the Morton County Commission approved five tax abatements, recommended approval of the Gwyther Third Subdivision plat, and heard 2025 budget presentations from the Morton County Water District, Western Plains Health and the State's Attorney's office; routine agenda items were also approved.
The Morton County Commission on July 11 approved routine business, accepted several budget presentations and recommended approval of a short-form subdivision plat.
Commissioner Buckley moved and Commissioner Morrell seconded approval of the meeting agenda and later moved and seconded the June 25, 2024 minutes; both motions passed with all voting aye. The commission also approved bills and payroll in a roll call vote with Commissioners Morrell, Zachmeier, Buckley and Chairman Nathan Boehm voting aye.
Wade Bachmeier of the Morton County Water District presented the district’s proposed 2025 budget. Chairman Boehm opened and closed a public hearing on the Western Plains Health 2025 budget; Erin Ourada of Western Plains Health presented the budget during the hearing. Chase Lingle, Assistant Morton County State’s Attorney, presented the State’s Attorney office 2025 budget.
The commission approved five abatements by number: #6611, #6612, #6613, #6614 and #6615; each was moved, seconded and recorded as 'All voting aye.' The body also voted to recommend approval of the short-form plat known as Gwyther Third Subdivision after finding it conforms to Article 7 of the Morton County Land Use Code and to the land-use priorities in the 2045 Comprehensive Plan (motion by Commissioner Zachmeier; second by Commissioner Morrell; all voting aye).
The minutes report total county funds expended of $1,796,285.95 for the period June 26 through July 11, 2024. A detailed list of checks and expenditures is available for public inspection during regular business hours at the Morton County Auditor’s Office. Chair Boehm adjourned the meeting at 6:39 p.m.
