The Tift County Board of Commissioners on April 8 approved a text amendment to Chapter 4 of the county Unified Development Code that clarifies when keeping animals is treated as a kennel and removes the word "commercial" from a subsection, a county official said.
Community Development Director Chris Davis told the board the changes were minimal and walked commissioners through the proposed edits. The Planning Commission reviewed the petition March 14 and recommended approval with two specific changes: revise subsection (A) to read "Keeping Animals shall be considered a kennel when one or more of the following conditions exist" and remove the word "commercial" from (A)(3). County Attorney Anthony Rowell opened the public hearing and, finding no public comment, closed it.
Commissioner Paul Webb moved to approve TC-TA-24-01; Commissioner Donnie Hester seconded. The motion carried 6-0. The amendment was recorded as approved during the meeting; an effective date was not specified on the record.
The change affects the county's supplemental standards for kennels and animal boarding facilities in the Unified Development Code and will be incorporated into the code text per the county's amendment process.
