County accepts $11.9 million financial report, approves $162,000 annual law enforcement contract and two hires

At its Nov. 6 meeting the Charles Mix County Board of Commissioners accepted monthly financial reports from the Auditor and Treasurer showing an ending balance of $11,895,467.67 for the month ending Oct. 31, 2025.

Auditor Jason Gant presented the Auditor's Account with Treasurer showing total deposits in banks of $11,336,238.40, $600 in cash and $558,629.27 in checks for a combined total of $11,895,467.67; the board approved the account on a motion by Nick Stotz and second by Kory Standy. The Treasurer's report showed a beginning balance of $7,646,510.56, total revenue of $5,926,776.88 and total expenses of $1,677,819.77, yielding the same ending balance; that report was likewise approved.

The board approved a Law Enforcement Services Agreement with the City of Lake Andes for $162,000 per year on a motion by Stotz and second by Standy; the minutes record "All in favor, motion carried." The minutes do not identify a sheriff by name or provide a roll-call vote tally for the contract approval.

Treasurer Michelle Wentland and John Meyer of Office Products discussed a proposed color printer for the Treasurer's office; on a motion by Commissioner Standy and second by Vice Chairman Stotz the board approved purchase of a color printer (the minutes do not state the purchase price). Auditor Jason Gant reviewed the county budget during the meeting; no further action was taken.

The board approved two personnel hires: part-time jailer Christina Habben at $22.68 per hour, effective Nov. 8, 2025, and full-time highway crewman Alex Fischer at $22.02 per hour, effective Nov. 12, 2025. That motion was moved by Standy and seconded by Soukup and recorded as carried in the minutes.

The meeting concluded with scheduling of the next regular sessions for Nov. 20 and Dec. 11, 2025, and adjournment at 11:05 a.m.
