Charles Mix County approves 2026 property tax levy, wage increases, plats and township grant

The board voted unanimously to adopt a levy rate of 3.080 per $1,000 of assessed value, which the minutes record as equal to $5,575,905 in General Fund property tax revenue; the levy amount has been approved by the South Dakota Department of Revenue. Commissioners also approved a 2.5% wage increase for county employees for 2026 and a one-time bonus of $1,000 for active full-time employees and $500 for active part-time employees who logged at least 150 hours in 2025.
Why it matters: the levy and pay decisions determine the county’s primary operating revenue and the personnel budget for the coming year. County officials said the levy amount has state approval and motions to adopt the resolution passed on unanimous votes.
Other formal actions taken Thursday included approval of three plats and one township infrastructure grant. By motion, the board approved the plat of Bakken Addition in Hamilton Township and two plats in Lawrence Township (Lot B; Lots C and D). The board also approved a Rural Access Infrastructure Grant application from Goose Lake Township covering four projects with a combined project cost of $148,559.53; the county’s share is recorded as $118,847.62 with a township share of $29,711.91.
The meeting record shows routine items were also approved by unanimous votes: meeting agenda, Nov. 6 minutes and the bills for Nov. 20, 2025. The minutes list detailed departmental claims and payroll for county departments; the record of claims shows a grand total of $602,346.05.
