Vice Chair Nimasheena Burns moved to accept the resignation, a motion seconded by Commissioner Heidi Carter and carried unanimously. The board then approved a motion, also moved by Vice Chair Burns and seconded by Commissioner Carter, appointing Claudia O. Hager as Interim County Manager to serve until a permanent County Manager is appointed.
The board recorded no additional details in the meeting about reasons for Dr. Sowell’s departure or any timeline for a permanent replacement. The motions were made in open session after the Board reconvened following a closed session earlier in the meeting.
Claudia O. Hager will assume interim management responsibilities immediately; the board did not set a public timeline for a national search or interim performance expectations in the meeting record.
The Board adjourned at 9:19 p.m.
