Burleson County Commissioners Court met Jan. 9, 2023 in Caldwell and unanimously approved a set of routine agenda items including the abandonment of Lakeway Court, a lease amendment for Road & Bridge Precinct 3, a series of contracts and the appointment of a precinct constable.
County Judge Keith Schroeder called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m., led the pledges to the American and Texas flags and opened the session. Pastor DeWet Steyn delivered the opening prayer.
Chief Garrett Durrenberger reported the county jail held 33 inmates—29 males and 4 females—and said there were vacancies in both the jail and dispatch staff. That update preceded the court’s consent business.
On the consent agenda, Commissioner Vincent Svec moved and Commissioner Dwayne Faust seconded approval of the December 2022 minutes and acceptance of a $1,762 donation to the Burleson Health Resource Center. The motion passed unanimously.
After an executive session to consult with legal counsel about the duties and responsibilities of the Precinct 4 constable, the court approved a motion by Commissioner Robert (Bobby) Urbanosky, seconded by Commissioner Vincent Svec, to abandon Lakeway Court. Commissioners Faust, Svec, Hildebrand and Urbanosky were recorded as voting Aye.
The court also approved, on a motion by Commissioner David Hildebrand seconded by Commissioner Dwayne Faust, an amendment to the lease agreement with 1536 Highway, LLC for the Road & Bridge, Precinct 3 Chriesman yard.
On other business the court approved formation of an advisory board to begin work on establishing vote centers; adopted a resolution selecting an administrative service provider and authorizing contract award for the 2023 CDBG-MIT MOD program funded by the Texas General Land Office; and approved 2023 indigent defense contracts with Bruno Shimek Law Firm covering County Court (adult and juvenile) and the 21st and 335th District Courts.
Commissioner Vincent Svec moved and Commissioner David Hildebrand seconded approval of an agreement with Vested Network, LLC for phone services. The court also appointed John Bennett as Constable, Precinct 4, to serve through Dec. 31, 2024, on a motion by Commissioner Urbanosky with a second from Commissioner Svec. The court approved deputation of Jay Michael Griffin as a deputy sheriff on a motion by Commissioner Faust, seconded by Commissioner Urbanosky.
The court approved bonds and bond renewals for named county clerk deputies, district clerk personnel and the county treasurer, authorized payment of bills and adjourned. County Judge Schroeder deferred the collections report for December 2022 to the next court meeting; the auditor gave no substantive report.
