Judge Mason Bames and fiscal court members publicly commended city, county and state crews and utility workers who responded quickly to damage from an 85‑mph straight‑line wind event on Memorial Day weekend; the court recorded that no injuries or casualties resulted from the storm.
County Attorney Sam Phillips reminded delinquent taxpayers that the tax sale is scheduled for September and encouraged payment at the County Clerk’s Office or visiting his office to arrange installment payments to avoid additional fees and penalties.
Judge Bames also reminded the court to review a 60‑page presentation on medical cannabis, noting that statutory legalization in Kentucky becomes effective Jan. 1, 2025; the court plans to discuss that presentation at the special-called Fiscal Court meeting on June 25. He also announced county employee benefits informational meetings on June 6 and open enrollment on June 7 in the Historic Courthouse fiscal courtroom.
Magistrate Marty Chandler presented a brief audit report on the Franklin–Simpson Industrial Authority, which showed net assets increasing from $9.2 million to $9.8 million (2022–2023) and long-term debt around $20 million, with $5 million of that debt carried on the county’s books. The Safe Room project at the Park remains in the design review stage per Judge Bames’ remarks.
The court adjourned at approximately 9:20 a.m.
