Cheatham County OKs school budget amendment and capital note for Pegram Elementary

Cheatham County commissioners on July 17 approved school-related funding measures and heard an introduction from the district’s new Director of Schools.
Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts presented a budget amendment for the General Purpose School Fund allocating $107,574 to Regular Capital Outlay, with funding drawn from the undesignated fund balance. The School Board and Education committee votes were recorded in the minutes; the full commission approved the amendment in a roll-call vote (11 yes, 0 no, 1 absent).
The board also approved a three-year General Purpose Schools Capital Outlay Note not to exceed $379,500 for paving and drainage repairs at Pegram Elementary. The Budget Committee recommended the note and the full commission approved it by roll call.
Director of Schools Cathy Beck introduced herself to the commission and said the school system purchased special glasses for students to view the upcoming solar eclipse and is planning adjustments to the school day. Beck said she seeks to build positive public relations for the district.
Committee chairs indicated they would coordinate on scheduling and budget committee timing where required. The school funding measures take effect as authorized at the July 17 meeting.
