Board approves January school funding, early pay and accepts clean audit report

Lunenburg County supervisors on Dec. 14 approved a series of fiscal and payroll actions affecting the school system and county government.
Jamyce Watson, Director of Finance for Lunenburg Schools, reported a daily membership (ADM) of 1,485 in September and noted December membership at 1,497; the school system requested the board maintain the proposed local appropriation to provide the local match for a 2% cost-of-living increase for staff. Supervisor Robert Zava recommended funding January per the previously approved budget while the School and Board Finance Committees meet to recommend funding for the rest of the fiscal year; the board approved that approach unanimously.
The board also approved a School Board resolution allowing early employee pay on Dec. 21; Administrator Tracy M. Gee requested the county follow the same early pay date and the board approved early county payroll on Dec. 21 as well. The board added Dec. 26 to the 2023 holiday schedule, keeping county offices closed that day.
Separately, auditors from Robinson, Farmer, Cox Associates presented the FY22/23 annual audit and reported no findings; the board accepted the audit and commended county staff for a healthy fund balance and twelve consecutive years without management concerns.
Supervisor motions on funding and payroll measures were unanimously approved.
