Alpena County committee recommends paying out PTO on last working day

County Clerk Keri Bertrand told the committee that the county historically paid out 50% of accrued PTO at separation, which encouraged employees to use remaining PTO before their final day; she said the county now pays out 100% of accrued PTO, removing that incentive. Commissioner John Kozlowski moved and Commissioner Todd Britton supported recommending that PTO be paid out on the employee’s last working day; the motion carried (Action Item #2).
The committee recorded the recommendation as an Action Item and directed that the policy language be drafted by the County Administrator and Human Resources for inclusion in the employee handbook pending final attorney review.
