Ware County picks Statewide Engineering for LMIG/SAP work and pares down 2026 road list

The Ware County Board of Commissioners voted Aug. 27 to designate Statewide Engineering, Inc. as engineer for the county’s 2026 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) work, budgeted at $1,273,448.87, and for the 2025 Safety Action Plan (SAP) grant of $372,110.00.
County Manager James Shubert said the 2026 LMIG proceeds are being used to match a 2025 CDBG project and that Statewide Engineering had already been selected in January 2025 for the 2025 CDBG project. Commissioner Timmy Lucas moved to approve the firm; Commissioner Barry Cox seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
In manager comments Shubert reported the engineers advised against resurfacing North River Road and noted the City will perform sewer and underground utility work on Grove Street. Removing those roads from the LMIG list reduced the estimated cost from $1,359,234.00 to $579,516.71. Shubert said $552,815.76 would remain in the 2026 LMIG after accounting for the 2025 CDBG project.
The commission did not vote on the individual road projects at the called meeting; the action before the board approved the engineering firm and recorded updated cost estimates.
