Ware County commissioners approve library MOU, renovation contract and multiple procurement items

The most significant vote approved a contract with Craft Development for the Okefenokee Regional Library renovation in the amount of $714,716, a move the board approved after a motion by Commissioner Timmy Lucas and a second from Commissioner Jon Tindall. Commissioners also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Okefenokee Regional Library System; County accounting staff noted the county’s prior expenditures for roof/boiler and HVAC work satisfy the 10% local match called for in the grant.
Other approved actions included an $80,750 ADG software license upgrade (split internally as $26,000 for Commission/Accounting and $54,750 for Codes, Licensing and Permitting), purchase of 20 replacement PC units for $21,832.80, and renewal of the CodeRED public alerting subscription for $18,190.43 (to be split 50/50 with the City of Waycross). The board also approved a one-year contract with CrowderGulf for debris removal (with four optional one-year renewals) and a contract with Thompson Consulting to monitor debris removal tonnage and weight accounting; both contracts passed 4–1 with Chairman Elmer Thrift voting no on each.
A separate Hofstadter contract to engage Thrift Brothers for dirt-street paving was tabled after Chairman Thrift declared a conflict of interest (Thrift Brothers LLC is owned by his sons). County Manager James Shubert said staff would seek written confirmation of a dedicated right-of-way from the property owner before the item returns to the Commission.
