SB 417 moves fireworks display permitting to local fire authority; Tift County to update ordinance and fees
Summary
Senate Bill 417 transfers permitting authority for fireworks displays from Probate Court to the local fire authority and allows up to $100 in administrative fees. County Clerk Miriam Jordan told the board that Senate Bill 417 transfers responsibility for issuing fireworks display permits from the Probate Court to the local fire authority and authorizes the local fire authority to charge up to $100 per permit for administrative costs.
Jordan recommended updating the county's Code of Ordinances through Ordinance No. 2024-03 and adjusting the county's schedule of fees under Resolution No. 2024-10 to allow the $100 administrative fee and a $10 fee for each additional copy of a permit. The board indicated it wants both the ordinance and amended fee schedule on the Sept. 9 consent agenda.
No vote on the ordinance or fee schedule was taken at the workshop; those items are being forwarded to the regular meeting for formal action.
