Coffee County adopts 2023 Comprehensive Plan update for county and four cities

The Coffee County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution to approve the county’s 2023 Comprehensive Plan update on Oct. 2, 2023. County Attorney Tony Rowell told the board the plan has been approved by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and is now ready for local adoption.
The plan covers long‑range growth, land‑use guidance and coordination among Coffee County and the cities of Ambrose, Broxton, Douglas and Nicholls. "The Comprehensive plan is a planning document for how the County grows in the future," Rowell said as he presented the resolution. Vice‑Chairman Jimmy Kitchens moved to adopt the document and Commissioner Johnny Wayne Jowers seconded; all commissioners voted in favor.
Adoption formally places the updated plan on record for county and municipal officials to use in permitting, zoning and capital planning; Rowell noted that local governments may modify the plan as needed. The board did not attach additional conditions during the adoption and did not schedule further action on the document at this meeting.
Next steps: local departments and elected officials will reference the adopted plan for future land‑use decisions and any city updates will proceed through their respective processes.
