State program approves Blakeman bridge; Rawlins County share estimated at $200,000

Rawlins County’s Road and Bridge representative told commissioners Sept. 15 that the Blakeman bridge project has been approved through the Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Project and that the county’s estimated share is about $200,000.
Wayne Lanning reported the program-approved project carries an estimated total cost of $2.3 million. Lanning also said county crews plan to install a guardrail near the project and that the Klein bridge project is nearly complete.
Commissioners discussed the project funding and logistics with Lanning but did not take a separate formal vote to commit funds during the meeting. The minutes record the status update and the county’s estimated match figure; no contract award or final local-commitment vote was recorded on Sept. 15.
The board asked Road and Bridge staff to continue coordinating the project under the Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Project requirements.
