Committee asks staff to review insurance coverage for alcohol at non-Borough events; staff to send Toys for Tots invoice

Members of the Ephrata Borough Budget and Finance Committee discussed liability and coverage for events held on borough property when alcohol is served and directed staff to collect past Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for review.
According to the committee record, the borough's insurance carrier could not provide a cost estimate for the additional coverage the borough was considering for non-Borough events involving alcohol. The committee asked staff to review previously submitted COIs for such events and to present the findings at the next meeting so the committee and council can evaluate exposure and potential cost.
Separately, staff member Karen Gerhart presented a special-event billing memo related to a Toys for Tots event. Gerhart said she will send the invoice to Toys for Tots and will advise the former mayor to contact Toys for Tots directly if he wishes to reimburse the organization for costs it incurred.
The committee also reviewed routine documents—the solicitor’s invoices for January and the Check and ACH registers for February—and recorded no further action was required on those records. The committee closed the meeting after a motion to adjourn was made and seconded.
