Spencer County Fiscal Court voted July 1 to purchase two opioid-awareness billboards and to fund the purchase from the county’s opioid-related funds.
The Sheriff described a proposed billboard design and said a local resident who has been in recovery for seven years asked to have her photo used; the Sheriff told the court he supported that inclusion. The Sheriff recommended placing one billboard at Elk Creek and one on a downtown route for two months. The court approved two billboards for two months at a base cost of $5,200 and, by general consent after discussion, added an additional $125 per sign for printing.
Court members discussed using opioid fund dollars and suggested giving additional emphasis to Isaiah House (local recovery services) in the campaign. The meeting packet included previously reviewed LEPP/body-armor grant paperwork; the court noted that paperwork but took no new vote on body armor at this meeting.
The Sheriff left the meeting after the vote; the court recorded unanimous approval by voice vote. The court did not specify the billboard vendor or final copy language beyond the noted preference to feature local recovery services and a local resident in recovery.
