Tipton County approves minutes, elects notaries, swears in judicial commissioner

The Tipton County Legislative Body met on Jan. 12, 2026 and completed routine business including approval of minutes, election of notaries public, a swearing-in, committee reports and public announcements.
The body approved the December 2025 term minutes on a motion by Commissioner Walker A. Adams, seconded by Commissioner John Anthony Mashburn. The commission then elected multiple notaries public on a motion by Commissioner David Copeland, seconded by Commissioner Jonathan Murphy; the minutes list those elected (for example, Elisha M Allen, Jennifer S Jones, LaToya Bauman, Amy Long and others) and state the elections were for the term prescribed by law.
General Sessions Judge M.O. Eckel III administered the oath to Mr. Jerry Dyson, who was sworn in as Judicial Commissioner for Tipton County General Sessions Court replacing Mr. Danny Payne, as recorded in the minutes. County Executive Jeff Huffman presented a proclamation and plaque to Tommy Smith of the Tipton County Planning Commission for his years of service.
Committee business was recorded as approved: the Finance and Administration Committee report (motion by Commissioner Courtney Fee, seconded by Commissioner David Copeland), the Public Works Committee report (motion by Commissioner James 'Jimbo' Adkins, seconded by Commissioner Bret A. Giannini), and the General Welfare Committee report (motion by Commissioner Jonathan Murphy, seconded by Commissioner Cecil Watson). The Sheriff's report was ordered approved on a motion by Commissioner Adkins and seconded by Commissioner Rusty Wooten. The Tipton County Trustee submitted a report to be spread upon the minutes; the excerpted minutes do not name the trustee.
Announcements listed in the minutes include a ribbon-tying ceremony at the Tipton County Animal Control Shelter Center on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., and a Brighton Presbyterian Church breakfast with a presentation by County Executive Huffman on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. The legislative body adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
