Carter County adopts update to general plan and building code recommendations

The Carter County Board of Commissioners held a recess for a public hearing on Dec. 15 to consider a resolution amending and adding to the county's general plan for physical development, including recommended building-code updates.
Planning Director Chirs Schuettler explained the update is a periodic review typically done every seven to eight years and noted an update had been underway prior to Hurricane Helene. The updates were provided to the commission as Exhibit A; the public was given an opportunity to comment but none did.
Following the public hearing, Steve Burrough moved and Carole Whaley seconded a motion to approve the resolution. The electronic vote was 20-0 in favor.
The resolution directs planning staff to incorporate the updates into the county's official plan and to transmit required information to state authorities where applicable. The packet notes some items are suggested exemptions or recommendations for the state-level code process.
