The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 12 approved a lease for storage of voting machines at 300 Court Street in Victoria and authorized the general registrar to sign a software-support contract with Calvacere for the county’s electronic poll book systems and ballot-on-demand printers.
Administrator Tracy M. Gee said the Industrial Development Authority of the Town of Victoria offered storage room 1-A at $50 per month to house voting machines securely for the Electoral Board and General Registrar. The Board approved the lease unanimously on a motion by Supervisor Frank W. Bacon, seconded by Supervisor Edward Pennington.
General Registrar Alissa Baldwin told the Board that prior vendor DemTech would no longer provide support and that while she had pricing from two other vendors, switching would require purchasing all new equipment. She said Calvacere’s support fits within the current budget and would not require new purchases. County Attorney Frank Rennie reviewed and approved the contract’s legal terms, and Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover asked that sales tax be removed from the contract price. The Board authorized the Registrar to sign the Calvacere agreement on a motion by Supervisor Edward Pennington, seconded by Supervisor Mike Hankins.
The lease and support contract are intended to ensure continuity of election operations and secure storage for voting equipment.
