Road crews report progress on bypass, bridge and shoulder projects; Rudyard supervisor introduced

Foremen and managers at the Chippewa County Road Commission reported progress on a series of maintenance and equipment items at the June 19 meeting, including bypass construction, bridge work, brine applications and equipment inspections.

Foreman Johnston said the bypass road on 12 Mile Road is nearly half complete, the bridge crew is working on Lake Shore to Paradise, and brine application will be done in Bruce Township on Monday. Foreman Goodman reported that brine work in Trout Lake and Rudyard is finished, shoulder work from M-28 to Trout Lake has been completed and AMZ equipment was operating on county roads. Foreman Johnson reported ditching on Neebish Island, gravelling on Paholka Road and work on the M-129 shoulder rebuild; state mowing has also started.

Fleet Manager Donajkowski reported that routine three-year fuel-tank inspections revealed issues at the Sault and Brimley sites; Brimley was repaired and cleared for three more years, and results from Sault were pending. Donajkowski also said the commission received a truck from the International Bridge Authority and a grader was delivered from Menominee. Manager Mark Laitinen said he drove by bypass roads and found them progressing, noted trunkline mowing and ongoing trunkline negotiations, and announced Engineers' Day next Friday, for which the commission will participate in a 'Touch a Truck' event arranged by Cloverland Electric.

Rudyard Township Supervisor John Krentz was introduced to the meeting by Foreman Goodman. The board recorded no public comments and adjourned at 8:32 A.M.
