Alpena County awards jail medical contract and approves hazardous-materials grant

Sheriff Erik Smith told the Alpena County Board of Commissioners that the county has long contracted with Advanced Correctional Healthcare but that Around the Clock Healthcare Services can provide the same services at lower cost. The board approved a new contract with Around the Clock Healthcare Services (ATC) effective April 1, 2025, for $199,680.
The vote to approve the jail medical contract was taken by roll call; all eight commissioners voted yes.
E911 and Emergency Management Director Kim Elkie presented the Michigan State Police Emergency Management & Homeland Security Division 2024–25 Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness Grant. The board approved acceptance of the $1,500 grant with a required $300 in-kind contribution (20%) and authorized the Local Emergency Planning Committee chair to sign grant documents.
Both measures were presented as committee recommendations. The board did not amend contract terms or grant conditions during the meeting.
