Summary
Central Carolina Technical College reported 1,893 Sumter County enrollees, $69,000 in scholarships to 37 students, and roughly $44 million in recent capital investments in Sumter County, including a $39 million academic building and a $15.7 million training-center expansion; CCTC requested a five-year extension of its Scholars Program.
Dr. Kevin Pollock, president of Central Carolina Technical College, told Sumter County Council on April 22 that 1,893 Sumter County residents enrolled at the college over the past year and that 37 local students received $69,000 in scholarship awards funded in part by county support and additional college resources.
Pollock outlined more than $44 million in recent capital investments tied to CCTC locations in Sumter County, calling out $1.6 million in paving, $1.5 million in roofing, $2 million in HVAC upgrades, a $39 million Academic and Student Services Building on track to open in August, and $15.7 million appropriated for expansion of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Training Center. He also updated council on a proposed technical high school project that is moving through state review for property transfer and funding. County Administrator Gary Mixon thanked Pollock and noted Pollock's upcoming retirement and long-standing partnership with county leadership.
CCTC asked council to consider a five-year extension of the Scholars Program to preserve county-supported scholarship levels; no formal council action was required that evening because the presentation was informational. The college framed the investments and scholarship support as part of its regional workforce and economic-development strategy.
