Irwin County elections board raises post-election audit threshold, approves bylaw changes

The Irwin County Board of Elections & Registrations on July 30 approved amendments to its bylaws updating post-election auditing standards, including raising the additional audit threshold from 4% to 10%. Representative Patricia Thurman moved to approve the changes and Vice-Chair Charlene Hutchinson seconded; the measure passed 2-0 and was notarized by Evelyn Romans.
Election Supervisor Ethan Compton told the board that Vice-Chair Hutchinson’s recommendation to change the auditing threshold had been added to the draft immediately after the June meeting and that the revised bylaws were posted publicly in the elections office and on the county website on June 12. The board discussed whether further amendments should be logged for an amended proposal to be posted publicly before final action at an August meeting, but the current text was approved at this session.
The change is intended to set the level that triggers an additional audit after an election; the board did not provide a new procedural schedule tied to the threshold in the meeting record. The board treated the action as routine procedural business and completed the notarization at the meeting.
The board will carry any remaining drafting or posting steps into its August meeting schedule if additional amendments are proposed.
