County staff told commissioners Jan. 25 that the public comment period for a proposed amendment to the Suncadia Development Agreement closed that day, and that staff received comments that were evenly split in favor and opposed.
"Today is the last day to take public comments. Staff received 50‑50 comments," CDS Director Chad Bala reported. Planning Manager Jamey Ayling has been working on the amendment and Bala said staff will assess the comments against a matrix to determine how they apply to the development agreements.
The board did not act on the amendment at the study session; the item was reported under "Other Business" and no vote or formal direction on the amendment is recorded in the minutes. The next formal step would be the Planning Commission review and any required public hearings or hearings required by county code.
Why it matters: amendments to a development agreement can change phasing, allowed uses or conditions for a major project and affect nearby residents and county permitting. The county's assessment of comments will determine which concerns must be addressed before formal hearings.
