Commissioners approve Stryker ALS lease and authorize mayor to sign Axon camera contract; Sheriff's camera budget cleared

Cheatham County commissioners approved a set of procurement actions Oct. 16 that finalize funding and authorize mayoral signature for EMS and law-enforcement equipment.

Stryker ALS 360 lease: Commissioners voted to approve funding for a Stryker ALS 360 lease contract that will begin in fiscal year 2024–25, with the first year's payment of $184,204.45 due July 1, 2024. The Stryker package described in the contract includes 8 power cots, 8 power loads, 8 stair chairs, batteries, warranties and preventative maintenance over a 10‑year lease (Resolution 14). The Board recorded the lease as an uncontrollable expenditure for FY 2024–25.

Axon in-car and body cameras: Separately, the Board approved a budget amendment using Prisoner Boarding Reserve funds to cover the Sheriff's in-car and body camera program ($185,742.68) and approved the mayor's signature on the Axon Enterprise, Inc. contract for in-car and body-worn cameras (Resolutions 15 and 16). The budget amendment for the Sheriff's cameras passed 10 yes, 2 no (Commissioners Walter Weakley and James Hedgepath voted No on the budget item); the mayor's signature on the contract was approved by roll-call vote 12–0 as part of the mayor's package.

Other equipment/agreements: The mayor was also authorized to sign a Stryker contract for EMS and an Auto-Chlor dishwashing-machine service agreement for county facilities; both were recorded as approved in the mayor's package.

Why it matters: The Stryker and Axon decisions commit the county to multiyear financial obligations and to equipment that will affect emergency medical response and body-worn/audio/video recording for law enforcement. The Axon program cited multi-year license and hardware schedules in vendor quotes included with the minutes.
