Sevier County Commission passes routine proclamations, appointments and code updates in special session

In a June 30, 2025 special session the commission approved multiple proclamations, board appointments, code amendment updates, equipment disposals, lease authorizations and notary approvals; nearly all items passed unanimously or by voice vote.
At a special session on June 30, 2025 the Sevier County Commission approved a series of routine agenda items including proclamations recognizing student athletes, confirmations of appointments to boards and commissions, adoption of code amendments for inspection activities, authorization for sale/disposal of county vehicles and equipment, approval of multi-year lease and maintenance agreements, and certification of notaries.
Chairman Larry Waters described the policy and code updates as the result of recommendations from intergovernmental committees, the county mayor's office and the state auditors, who encourage codified policies to maintain a clean audit. Fire & Rescue Chief David Puckett explained that the code amendments clarify definitions and verbiage used by the board of fire and building appeals.
Most motions were made and seconded by commissioners and passed by roll-call votes of 21 Yes, 0 No, 4 Absent, or by voice vote where noted. The commission also approved the transfer of an armory parcel (see separate article) and handled notary approvals (52 applicants) with a recorded abstention on the notary vote.
The session concluded with an announcement that the July commission meeting was canceled and the next scheduled meeting will be August 18, 2025.
