Board finalizes ballot orders, testing dates and vote-reporting plans for November

Lunenburg County election officials confirmed several operational steps for the November election at their Aug. 28 meeting.
The General Registrar reported there are 8,205 registered voters in the county and that past presidential turnout was 75%. Using that figure, staff increased the ballot order from 80% to 85% and said the county will print 37 ballot styles. The registrar further reported that ballot layout is complete except for the presidential candidate list; ballots will be printed and voting machines programmed once the list is finalized.
The board set logic-and-accuracy (L&A) testing for Sept. 17 at 10:00 a.m. for the Cap walk-in and mail-in voting machines. The registrar also reported annual maintenance on DS200 and ExpressVote machines has been completed. Sunday voting was scheduled for Oct. 6 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the registrar reviewed the full training schedule for poll workers.
To streamline election-night reporting, the registrar said results will be reported by text photo instead of by phone message to reduce errors and keep phone lines available for problems. Because Nov. 11 is a holiday, the final canvass and provisional meeting were scheduled for Nov. 12 at 10:00 a.m.
Next steps: finalize the presidential candidate list so ballots can be printed, complete L&A testing on Sept. 17, and implement the revised results-reporting procedure.
