Lunenburg supervisors approve routine business, adopt Purple Heart and church anniversary resolutions

In a brief Sept. 11 meeting, the Board approved the consent agenda, accepted sale proceeds for the Sheriff’s capital fund, authorized multiple grant applications, adopted a Purple Heart County resolution and a 250th anniversary resolution for Cool Spring Christian Church.
The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors approved routine business and several resolutions at its Sept. 11 meeting.
During Citizen Comment, Ann Klieves of Brodnax spoke against solar facility development in Lunenburg County. The Board then approved the consent agenda, which included the Aug. 14 meeting minutes, the Treasurer’s July 2025 reports and listed warrants.
Administrator Tracy M. Gee presented a Sheriff’s Office request to accept $2,550 from the sale of a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer and place the funds in the Sheriff’s Office Capital Fund; the Board approved the request unanimously after a motion from Supervisor Robert Zava and a second from Supervisor Edward Pennington.
Multiple resolutions or draft resolutions were authorized or adopted. The Board authorized staff to draft a Resolution of Retirement honoring VDOT Residency Administrator Tommy Johnson. The Board also agreed to allow staff to draft a resolution designating Lunenburg County as a Purple Heart County, and then adopted a formal Purple Heart County resolution recognizing Purple Heart recipients and directing the resolution be permanently recorded among Board papers. Separately, the Board unanimously approved a resolution commending Cool Spring Christian Church on its 250th anniversary.
Administrator Gee also reported on administrative matters including an upcoming Information Technology policy review, personnel needs in the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office, completed building and grounds projects, and recognition for the local CSA office. Supervisor Robert Zava suggested the County examine options for a courthouse veterans memorial and he and County Attorney Frank Rennie were asked to prepare suggestions for the Board’s consideration.
Supervisor Mike Hankins moved to adjourn and Supervisor Edward Pennington seconded; the Board unanimously adjourned the meeting.
