EUPTA reports ridership uptick and secures MDOT/FTA grants to replace five vehicles

The Eastern Upper Peninsula Transportation Authority reported a 10% increase in bus passengers for March and said federal and state grant funds will cover five vehicle replacements.
Finance Director Ms. Gordon told the board that the authority received notification from the Michigan Department of Transportation and that replacements will be funded with Section 5339 Bus and Bus Facility grants. The planned purchases would replace three buses, one transit van and one SUV; Ms. Gordon said one Newberry minivan is out for bids and will be funded with state and federal grant money.
Ms. Gordon also presented fare and ridership data, noting fares decreased 3% for the month while year-to-date fare revenue was up by just over $1,100; vehicle and passenger traffic were down slightly over the first six months. She said the board has five graphs showing rider categories across the Chippewa and Luce systems and five-year trends for fare revenue and passenger counts.
Trustee Lynda Garlitz moved to approve March accounts payable and EFT transfers and to accept the Finance Director's report; Trustee Joe Henne seconded the motion and the board carried it unanimously.
The board did not take further formal action on procurement for the vehicles during the meeting; Director Paramski outlined next steps for design and procurement on other capital projects elsewhere on the agenda.
