Barry County approves IT backup servers, NetVault contract and creates junior security analyst position

Barry County commissioners on Jan. 13 authorized several information-technology and security measures: purchase of two Dell PowerEdge R760 servers for backup and recovery, approval of a NetVault Backup and Recovery agreement with Quest Software Inc., and adoption of a job description for a Junior Security Analyst at grade 12 on the BCCEA pay scale.
County Administrator Eric Zuzga introduced the personnel request and discussed ongoing efforts to keep the county’s IT systems and software current. Commissioners discussed the purchase and then approved the server acquisition on a motion by Commissioner Catherine Getty, supported by Bob Teunessen. The NetVault contract was approved on a motion by Jon Smelker, supported by Marsha Bassett. The Junior Security Analyst job description and grade were approved on a motion by Marsha Bassett, supported by Catherine Getty. All three measures passed on unanimous roll call votes among commissioners present.
During limited public comment Sheriff Dar Leaf thanked Matt, the county IT director, for a hardware analogy and said that body-worn and in-car cameras are expected to arrive at the end of the month; he also described cloud storage regulations that will govern how camera data is retained and accessed.
The approvals authorize county staff to proceed with procurement and contract execution; the county administrator is authorized to sign the NetVault agreement on behalf of the county.
The county did not provide cost figures for the server purchase or the NetVault contract in the meeting minutes; procurement records and the signed contract should be consulted for pricing and implementation timelines.
