Lovingston, Va. — During other business at the Nelson County Board of Supervisors’ Jan. 28 continued meeting, members discussed scheduling for a joint Planning Commission work session and a possible County Code amendment on emergency-declaration timing.
Supervisor Jesse N. Rutherford asked whether the joint work session planned for that evening would be rescheduled. County Administrator Candice W. McGarry said staff would bring North District Supervisor A. Cameron Lenahan up to date on zoning ordinance updates and did not expect the joint meeting to be rescheduled. Deputy Clerk Amanda B. Spivey said the next joint work session is scheduled for April 1, 2026 following public engagement.
Supervisor A. Cameron Lenahan asked if the board should update the County Code to match state code regarding local emergency confirmations, which would change the timeframe for the board to confirm a director’s emergency declaration from five days to forty-five days. Administrator McGarry proposed that the board could authorize a public hearing on that proposed amendment at the board’s next meeting.
No formal motion on the code change was recorded at the continued meeting; staff indicated a public hearing could be scheduled if the board authorizes it at a future meeting. The meeting adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
