County awards $597,645 contract for jail control system, cites state grant support

Erie County Commissioners voted March 19 to award a $597,645 contract for a jail control system to Securitas Technology Corp. The motion, made by Mr. Shoffner and seconded by Mr. Old, passed on a roll call of all aye.
County Administrator Hank Solowiej told the Board the final bid came in lower than expected after removing the intercom headend and modifying the key-card system. He said the project received a $200,000 grant from Senator Gavarone’s office and that county staff, including Steve Westcott from the Sheriff’s Office, are pursuing additional state grant opportunities tied to HB 2 to offset remaining costs.
The contract award approves the vendor as the lowest and best bidder per recommendations from the Jail Administrator, the IT director and the Finance Department. The Board recorded the award as an alternate-inclusive bid that meets the county’s specifications.
The commissioners took no additional public testimony on the award at the meeting. The motion and vote were recorded in the meeting minutes.
