Plan Commission notes Data Center Task Force transition, agrees to revisit committee assignments

During the Jan. 27, 2026 meeting of the LaPorte County Plan Commission, member John Matwyshyn asked that minutes reflect the transition from his volunteering for the Data Center Task Force to an official appointment.
Matwyshyn said he had volunteered and been appointed, then later received a call that prompted him to request a formal record of the change. President Rita Beaty and other members indicated that Ashley (recorded minutes from the earlier meeting) likely has the appropriate record and that the commission would review the minutes to ensure the transition is documented.
Building Commissioner Michael Polan raised a related administrative issue: the commission should revisit committee rosters for committees the late Harold Parker had served on so staff can confirm current membership and identify any vacancies. James (Jimmy) Pressell III and Eric Pointon identified committees they recalled Parker serving on, including the Comprehensive Planning Committee and the Solar Committee and involvement with the Data Center Task Force. Beaty noted one committee in the discussion was not one Parker had volunteered for.
Commissioners agreed to review committee assignments and report back at the next meeting so committee reports and any required reassignments can be made. The body adjourned at 6:07 p.m.
