The Calhoun County Commission unanimously voted Aug. 8 to award construction contracts for two American Rescue Plan Act-funded community centers to Hurst Construction LLC. County Administrator Jonathan Gaddy presented the resolutions, and commissioners approved both by voice vote.
The awards cover the Thankful Park Community Center and the Choccolocco Community Center. Commissioner Shears said the projects “are exciting for Districts 1 & 2” and thanked county staff for moving the projects forward. The motions to adopt the resolutions were made by Commissioner Wilson and seconded by Commissioner Shears; both motions passed unanimously.
In related action, the commission approved contracting with Bill Whittaker Architecture to conduct up to five property assessments of county facilities at a cost not to exceed $7,000 per assessment. Commissioner Howell moved to adopt the proposal and Commissioner Patterson seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
These items were presented as resolutions with documentation entered into the meeting record. With contracts approved, next steps include finalizing agreements and beginning pre-construction work as scheduled in the resolutions.
