WOSC board approves program changes, new workforce certificates and $39,350 simulation purchase

The Western Oklahoma State College Board of Regents on April 22 unanimously approved a slate of academic program changes and a campus purchase for health-sciences simulation. The board approved the deletion of an Associate in Science Infants and Toddler program, the removal of an Associate in Applied Science Criminal Justice: Correction Option, and multiple program reviews and updated degree plans across associate-level offerings.
Why it matters: The approvals reorganize the college’s program portfolio and add short-term workforce credentials intended to align the AAS Farm & Ranch Management pathway with local employer needs.
Regents voted to add two embedded workforce certificates within the AAS Farm & Ranch Management program: a Wildlife Management embedded certificate and a Beef Cattle Management embedded certificate. Those additions were presented by Rachel Beckner, vice president for academic affairs, and moved by Regent Dana Darby with Regent Robert Williams seconding; the motions passed unanimously.
The board also approved a purchase of Anatomage simulation equipment and software for $39,350, to be paid from HRSA grant funds. The purchase was presented by Beckner; Regent D’Lese Travis moved approval, Regent Dana Darby seconded, and the motion passed with all present regents voting yes. According to the agenda materials, the equipment will support clinical and health-related instruction.
Across multiple agenda items, the board approved program reviews and updated degree plans. The motions covered Enterprise Development (AAS and AA), Associate in Science and Associate in Arts degree plans (behavioral science, social science, liberal arts, business, criminal justice, and agriculture science options), and program reviews for business, mathematics and science, and criminal justice. Each approval was moved and seconded from the regents on the dais and recorded as adopted unanimously.
Board minutes record that faculty have been transitioning seven additional courses to open educational resources to reduce student costs and that faculty collaborated on updates to degree sheets now on the agenda for approval.
Next steps: The approved program deletions, additions and degree-plan updates will be reflected in the college’s catalog and degree sheets; the Anatomage equipment purchase will proceed under the stated HRSA grant authority.
