The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors on April 9 approved a series of budget and administrative actions, including an early appropriation of $172,390 for two Sheriff’s Office replacement vehicles, updates to a regional-service guarantee and multiple committee appointments.
Sheriff’s Office representative Andy Colbert requested that funds already budgeted in FY2026 be appropriated early. County Administrator Daniel N. Witt told the Board the $172,390 is included in the FY2026 budget and, if released now, would be taken from General Fund reserves and removed from the FY2026 appropriation. Vice-Chair Hazel Bowman Smith moved to approve the early appropriation; Supervisor Robert L. Shook seconded the motion and the Board carried it unanimously.
The Board approved an updated local government guarantee for the Southside Regional Public Service Authority (SRPSA) and appointed multiple members to the Local Board of Building Code Appeals, including Jon Hughes (Cardinal Homes), Freddie Lee, Justin Mason, Johnny Reed, Andy Lipscomb and Charles “Chuck” Clay. Sari Goff was appointed to Piedmont Senior Resources to fill a term ending April 10, 2027.
Financial business included approval of FY2025 invoices totaling $671,898.86 except for a $55,419.07 charge from Pearson’s appraisal, which the Board held out for further review. The Board also approved late invoices of $4,409.76, appropriations of $40,712.00 and a $2,000 request from Trucker’s Parade Against Cancer (TPAC). The Board scheduled a VDOT 6-Year Plan and FY2025–26 budget work session for April 16 and a public hearing on the schools budget for May 1, 2025.
Several motions were recorded as carried with all members present and voting yes.
