Laurel workshop reviews updated MOU with Allies in Aging as Tuesday Billings run expands

At a Nov. 18 City of Laurel council workshop, staff presented a resolution authorizing the mayor to sign a memorandum of understanding with Allies in Aging that updates which buses the city will use for public transportation services.
Tyler Amundson of Allies in Aging gave a brief overview of the organization’s services and the proposed changes to the MOU. Amundson said the update reflects the buses the city recently received and noted that, due to demand, the service now operates a regular run to Billings every Tuesday. He also described services available to seniors, including transportation and referrals for minor home repairs when financial assistance is not available.
The minutes note the County collects three mills that support senior services; Allies in Aging’s materials referenced in the packet include a handout describing offered services and noted a front-cover feature on Mary Sickle, a longtime Laurel cook.
The workshop discussion focused on operational details and who would be responsible for costs under the MOU. No formal vote was recorded at the workshop; staff indicated the resolution will be placed on the agenda for the next regular council meeting for formal consideration.
