Commissioners spent part of the Feb. 3 meeting reviewing the status of the town's Unified Development Code (UDC) rewrite and hearing previews of upcoming Town Council items.
David (town staff) said the commission has been working through the UDC draft for about a year and that public hearings required for the ordinance had already been completed. He said staff and the town attorney have prepared a cleaned, attorney-reviewed version and will circulate it to commissioners before the next meeting, when the commission will consider an ordinance that would serve as a second reading prior to council review.
David also told commissioners the consultant-prepared tollway-guidelines document is roughly 60 pages, will be sent to the commission in advance, and will be presented by Mr. Rutherford at the next meeting. He said next week's joint session with council will be lengthy given items carried over from canceled meetings.
Why it matters: consolidating development regulations into a single UDC is intended to centralize and clarify development standards. The commission's recommendation at the next meeting could move the code forward to Town Council consideration on Feb. 24.
Next steps: staff will distribute the attorney-reviewed clean draft and any corrections noted by the commission; the commission can submit written comments ahead of its next scheduled vote.
