Angleton council authorizes Landmark Aquatics work on recreation center pool; reopening targeted for spring

The Angleton City Council authorized staff to proceed with Landmark Aquatics for natatorium work at the Angleton Recreation Center, with funding tied to a local bond and a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department grant.

Jason told the council the work under consideration includes pool replastering, spa replastering, gutter and deck grates, additional drainage components, redoing the deck, and renovations to the slide structure (including stair texture). He said the procurement is being processed through a BuyBoard contract and that staff will attach the dollar amounts to the grant reporting so funding can be documented.

Council members noted the site visit and the visible progress. Jason acknowledged membership disruptions while the pool is closed and said the city is offering discounts to monthly members, pause options and prorated credits to annual members to compensate for downtime. On schedule, Jason said staff are targeting a late February to early March reopening, with the goal to be open before spring break, but cautioned unforeseen renovation discoveries could extend that timeline.

Councilman Sarton moved to approve Landmark Aquatics for pool reconditioning; the motion was seconded (the presiding officer announced Councilman Smith as the seconder) and the council approved the contract authorization by voice vote. Staff will proceed with the procurement steps and return to council with any contract approvals required after bid or contract finalization.

The item advances natatorium repairs slated under the Angleton Better Living Corporation bond and a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department non-urban indoor recreation grant; staff said further natatorium and recreation-center work will be brought to the council in January as funding and project sequencing allow.
