The Moody City Council met on May 13, 2024, and approved a package of routine, budgeted items and personnel actions before adjourning at 6:10 p.m. Mayor Joe Lee called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.; Council Member Matt Morris was noted as absent on the roll call.
The council approved the published agenda on a motion by Council Member Linda Crowe, seconded by Council Member Ellis Key. The council then approved the April 22, 2024 minutes after a motion by Council Member Lynn Taylor; Council Member Nick Rutledge recorded an abstention on that vote.
Library licensing, fire equipment purchases and repairs, staffing, and inspections were the principal items on the consent-style docket. Library director Sara Roberts requested renewal of the library’s copyright compliance site license for movies with Swank Movie Licensing at a budgeted cost of $417 (budget code 01-519-4900). Council Member Linda Crowe moved to approve the renewal; Council Member Nick Rutledge seconded and the council approved the request.
Fire Department items were presented as part of departmental business by Larry Horton (with Chris Hall listed parenthetically). The council approved the purchase of two fire-hydrant adaptors from vendor NAFECO for $1,975 (budget code 01-514-5400) on a motion by Council Member Lynn Taylor, seconded by Council Member Ellis Key. The council also approved payment to Sunbelt for repairs to engine E‑3 fuel lines totaling $724.77 (budget code 01-514-4502) after a motion from Council Member Linda Crowe and a second from Council Member Nick Rutledge.
The council approved posting and hiring to fill four full-time, replacement positions in the Fire Department — the agenda states these are not new positions but replacements for personnel who switched to part-time or resigned. Separately, the council authorized annual citywide fire-extinguisher inspections and any necessary repairs with vendor Fire Master, with an estimated budgeted range of $1,200–$1,500 (budget code 01-515-2505); Council Member Nick Rutledge moved to approve that estimate and Council Member Linda Crowe seconded.
Mayor Joe Lee also proposed postponing the regular council meeting scheduled for Memorial Day (May 27, 2024) with rescheduling to occur, if necessary, at the call of the mayor; Council Member Nick Rutledge moved to approve the postponement, seconded by Council Member Lynn Taylor, and the council approved the change.
The mayor closed the meeting at 6:10 p.m. The minutes were later attested and approved on June 10, 2024.
