Newton City Council administers oaths, elects John Stiver as mayor pro tem and appoints interim city manager
Summary
During its Dec. 7, 2021 meeting Newton City Council administered oaths to newly elected and re-elected members, unanimously elected Council Member John M. Stiver as Mayor Pro Tempore, and appointed Assistant City Manager Sean Hovis as Interim City Manager after a closed session.
After a brief recess during its Dec. 7, 2021 meeting, the Newton City Council administered oaths of office to newly elected Council Member Roy Johnson and re-elected Council Members Ed Sain and John Stiver.
Following the oath administration, Council Member Jerry Hodge nominated Council Member John M. Stiver for Mayor Pro Tempore; with no further nominations the Council unanimously elected Stiver to the post.
Later in the meeting the Council entered closed session under N.C. Gen. Stat. 143‑318.11(a)(6). No action was taken in closed session; upon returning to open session the Council unanimously appointed Assistant City Manager Sean Hovis as Interim City Manager by motion of Council Member Ed Sain, seconded by Council Member Roy Johnson.
