Council awards Hwy. 10 breaker replacement contract to National Transformer Sales

Electric Utilities Director Doug Wesson told the council that staff solicited bids to replace five vacuum breakers at the Highway 10 substation and received three bids: Myers Controlled Power ($90,250), National Transformer Sales ($94,445) and ABB, Inc. ($137,290). Staff and Southeastern Consulting Engineers found Myers Controlled Power’s bid did not meet bid specification requirements. National Transformer Sales was identified as the lowest qualified bidder.
Wesson said equipment delivery is expected 24 weeks from order and that the project budget — $243,450 — includes the equipment bid of $94,445, engineering of $22,500 and installation estimated at $126,505; installation will use city staff (force account labor).
Council Member Ed Sain moved to approve the bid to National Transformer Sales and to adopt the accompanying capital project and budget ordinance amendment; the motions were seconded by Jody Dixon and approved unanimously.
The contract award and ordinance are on file with the city clerk. Wesson noted the potential multi-fiscal-year nature of the project and that funds would be transferred to a capital project fund to preserve budget authority for the life of the project.
