Finance Director Vickie Thomas told the council the Westside Pump Station (1910 Todd Street), built in 1993, needs two new 88-horsepower pumps. Staff reported only Xylem Water Solutions USA, Inc., could supply pumps meeting design requirements without re-plumbing or re-wiring the wet well; a prior quote of $108,870 rose to $124,000, requiring a $15,150 budget amendment. Council approved Xylem as sole source and adopted the budget amendment unanimously.
Public Works and Utilities Director Dusty Wentz described an emergency replacement at the Clark Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant: one sludge pump, originally installed in 1979 and repeatedly rebuilt, must be replaced to avoid backups and potential NCDEQ penalties. Staff said only one vendor could meet design needs without major redesign; the pump with packing costs $32,671.39. Council approved the sole-source justification and adopted the budget amendment by unanimous vote.
Council members recorded no objections in the meeting minutes; motions were made and seconded and recorded as approved. Staff will proceed with procurement and installation and return with implementation details as needed.
