Police Chief Vidal Sipe told council that two frontline patrol vehicles had been declared total losses after separate crashes (a 2014 Chevy Tahoe and a 2013 Chevy Caprice). The citys insurer, Glatfelter Claims Management Inc., paid $28,520.56 for the Tahoe and $9,856.00 for the Caprice, for total insurance proceeds of $38,376.56.
Chief Sipe asked council to adopt a budget ordinance amendment recognizing the insurance revenue and authorizing an additional $17,105.82 from the FY2020 fund balance so the department could purchase and upfit one replacement patrol vehicle. The combined total requested was $55,482.38. Council Member Jody Dixon moved to adopt the amendment; Council Member Ed Sain seconded and council voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance amendment as recorded in the minutes.
The minutes summarize the vehicle-history and the funding amounts but do not record verbatim quotes from Chief Sipe or council members. The action authorizes the police department to purchase one replacement patrol vehicle and proceed with equipment installation and upfitting under the adopted appropriation.
