Carter County commissioners approve revised five‑year courthouse security contract

The Carter County Board of Commissioners voted Jan. 15 to approve a revised five‑year contract for courthouse security cameras and panic‑button systems following a vendor presentation and follow‑up negotiations.

The chair introduced Tory Smith of Recata, who walked commissioners through a proposal covering hallways, courtroom and exterior coverage with 11 cameras and two electrified doors. The vendor presented two licensing options: a five‑year plan and a 10‑year plan that would raise the up‑front licensing cost by roughly $10,500 but reduce recurring fees. Panic buttons were quoted at $88.90 apiece for 15 units, and the company said a 50% deposit would be required to guarantee quoted pricing through the end of the month.

Commissioners asked to remove one camera shown for the commissioners’ office and debated whether to take a shorter licensing term now or secure the 10‑year option at the higher up‑front cost. The county requested amended quotes reflecting that removal; the vendor agreed to send revised line items and floor‑plan screenshots for review.

Later in the meeting the board took formal action. A motion to approve the vendor’s amended five‑year security contract was seconded and carried. The board instructed staff to finalize the paperwork and to schedule the 50% deposit, contingent on receiving the amended invoice and the presiding officer’s signature.

The vote was procedural and unanimous on the floor; the motion carried without public comment. The recording of the vendor presentation and the written quotes will be filed with county procurement records.
