City planning staff asked the Largo Planning Board on Dec. 4 to forward a Code amendment updating references in the Comprehensive Development Code to the ninth edition of the Florida Building Code and the 2025 FDOT standard plans for roadway construction and drainage. Staff noted the Florida Building Commission adopted the ninth edition in December 2024 and that the correct effective date is Dec. 31, 2026 (the staff report had an incorrect year).
A board motion to recommend adoption passed unanimously (7–0). Staff told the board the amendment is expected to appear on the City Commission’s first reading in early January. The item replaces references to the eighth edition currently in the city’s code; adoption at the Commission level would align local regulations with the statewide code and FDOT standards.
Board members asked clarifying questions during the presentation; staff answered that the measure is a routine update to keep the city code current with state and FDOT standards. The board’s vote was advisory; the City Commission has final authority.
