Auditor Jill Vang of Martin Starnes & Associates presented Macon County's FY2024 audit to the Board of Commissioners on Dec. 10, saying the audit had been submitted and approved by the Local Government Commission. Vang identified a clerical error related to Medicaid eligibility determination in which numbers were transposed but said the individual involved remained eligible for Medicaid and the error was administrative in nature.
Finance Director Lori Carpenter told the board that because project funds for Franklin High School have not yet been moved, the county anticipates the general fund balance will decline by an estimated $20 million over the next few years as the school project advances.
Chairman Young and other commissioners asked clarifying questions about the Medicaid deficiency and fiscal impacts; staff noted the audit is finalized and on file with the LGC.
The board received the audit presentation; no formal motions regarding the audit were recorded in the transcript.
