Macon County commissioners unanimously approve lease renewal, policy update and solid-waste ordinance; accept surplus property offer

The Macon County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 10 unanimously approved a series of routine actions, including a lease renewal for judges' office space, an update to the county Acceptable Use Policy to align with new state law, and revisions to the county's Solid Waste Ordinance.
Interim County Manager Warren Cabe told the board the county is required to provide office space for judges and presented a renewal lease for 187 Church Street in Franklin, with rent increasing from $600 to $750 per month; Cabe said the needed funds are already budgeted. Commissioner Breeden moved to approve the renewal; Commissioner Shields seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
County Attorney Eric Ridenour described recent state legislation that takes effect Jan. 1, 2025, requiring a prohibition on pornography on government networks and devices. HR Director Tammy Keezer and IT Director Andy Muncey worked on updates to the county's existing Acceptable Use Policy; Commissioner Breeden moved to adopt the revised policy, Commissioner Antoine seconded and the board approved it unanimously.
Solid Waste Director Chris Stahl presented a housekeeping revision to the county's Solid Waste Ordinance intended to update language from the 1990s and to formalize closing procedures at the landfill. Stahl said the substantive operational change sets posted closing times to allow staff time to clean up and secure the site: open until 4:00 p.m. Monday'Friday and until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Commissioner Antoine moved to approve the revisions, Commissioner Shields seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
On a separate item County Attorney Eric Ridenour presented an offer of $1,000 for two parcels at 88 No Name Road. Chairman Young explained the statutory upset-bid process and said the county hopes to receive $25,000; the purchaser would be responsible for demolishing a building on the property. Commissioner Young moved to accept the offer and enter the upset-bid period, Commissioner Antoine seconded, and the board voted unanimously to proceed.
The board also approved the consent agenda, which included minutes, budget amendments #127'#135, a fireworks permit, the 2025 holiday schedule, chamber service contracts, a partial refund to Vineyards and Villas, LLC, and tax releases totaling $2,520.12. The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
