Greg said the district’s approach is intended to ensure that applicants follow applicable standards and that, as the district files protests, it will demonstrate a pattern of oversight.
On the motion to authorize the general manager to protest injection-well applications, the board voted 5-0 (motion by Cecil Lee, seconded by Lee Young). The minutes indicate the authorization is permissive — allowing staff to protest where appropriate — and that additional technical support (such as a contracted hydrologist) may be required on a case-by-case basis.
